"First, I would like to thank the Academy for showing that it can be about the performance and not the politics."
-Mo'nique (Academy Award winner for best actress in a supporting role)
Anyone who isn't living under a rock somewhere in Kalamazoo was probably up watching the Academy Awards last night. Although somewhat lengthy, it was a very exciting show. I'm sure that many of you were gagging, as I was during the opening performance. Luckily we had Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin as hosts to take our minds off of the catastrophy that was Neil Patrick Harris and his entire performance!
I must admit, that one of the main reasons I watched was to see whether or not Miss. Mo'nique would bring an award home, and boy was I glad she did. During her speech, she made an excellent statement, which I quoted above. Performance definitely persevered over politics yesterday. Her performance in 'Precious' was definitely one to notice, and stood out from the rest. Going up against seasoned vets such as Penelope Cruz, and Maggie Gyllenhaal, really left room for doubt in a lot of minds; but she pulled it off and earned her Oscar for best actress in a supporting role.
Another pleasant surprise was Jeff bridges taking home the glory for best actor. His competition included George Clooney and Morgan Freeman. I'm sure many people, including myself, were sure either George or Morgan would be taking the Oscar home with them. So Jeff’s win was another testament to performance over politics. I haven't seen 'Crazy Heart' yet, but it's evident that his performance was chart topping!

Christoph Waltz stole the cookie from Vet's Matt Damon and Woody Harrelson. His performance in 'Inglorious Bastards' was definitely Oscar worthy. If you’ve seen ‘Inglorious Bastards’, you probably agree 100% that Christoph deserved that Oscar.
Another big winner last night was Sandra bullock who took Mr. Oscar home for best Actress in 'The Blind Side.' Although a seasoned vet herself, I'm sure it was nail biting being in the same category as Meryl Streep, who is never fails to receive a nomination (as it was pointed out, playfully, last night).
It was almost set in stone beforehand, that 'Avatar' would be the phenom of the awards last night, and although it came close, it was the masterminds behind 'The Hurt Locker' who hit it big , taking home the most Oscars last night, including best picture. A member of the crew also made history last night by becoming the first female to take home an Oscar for best director, Kathryn Bigelow.
I like the title of your blog. However, I was not able to tell the purpose of your blog from just the title. I suggest that you add a descriptive byline explaining a little more about your blog. After reading your introductory blog, I knew immediately that you blog would be giving a very cleaver, opinionated spin on whatever you decided to talk about that day.
ReplyDeleteI was a little confused at first. I didn’t know whether your graphic was the actual title of your blog or not. Although the template you chose was beautiful, I found it very difficult to concentrate on your blog. I kept looking at the dots. Perhaps a larger font size would have helped me. I noticed that you added a widget for your blog’s followers. This is a great feature. The bloggers doing a blog search, on truth should be able to find you quickly.
The content of your blog is outstanding. I would like to suggest incorporating pictures to go with your blog. You will need to make sure to put them inside of a border, to keep them separated from the background, though.
Your blog appeals to a very broad audience. I loved your “Bloggone Truth” about the Oscars. I know the style of your writing will just pull your readers in and keep the conversation going. Good job.
Katrina,
ReplyDeleteThe first thing that caught my attention is your picture with the two men butting heads. I love this picture and the title of your blog reels me right in!
The purpose and audience of your blog are not very clear. I would suggest adding an intro to your blog with that information so that the reader knows what the blog is intended for and who it is intended for. Your posts seem to be able to relate to various audiences and I assume your blog is open for every type of audience, which could be the case. This is also something that I need to work on for my blog. =)
I think your open and honest opinion allow readers to be able to relate to you and even ponder about their own thoughts on the topics you discuss. The opening post “Performance VS Politics” started your blog off great. Most people watched the Academy Awards and can connect with you on what you thought about the award show.
The design of your blog is great! I love the polka dots. I think they add personality, spunk, and good color scheme to the design of your blog. Everything flows together from the background to the format, font, and picture (which is funny and eye catching). Outstanding job!
I encourage you to keep posting. I think your blogs will continue to improve and I can’t wait to read more of your thoughts!
